Emergent

The origin of 'Emergent' arises from what I felt was the most significant factor about our site in Derbyshire, which is the three woodlands it sits amongst. On site there is a prominent metaphysical pull to the forest which is heightened by the fact there is a 3,000-year-old tree there named the 'Betty Kenny'. Arguably everything about the site was enriched by the forest's strong ancient connectivity. The forestry creates a strong unique sense of place as it has begun to engulf and reclaim the ruinous cottages. The gradual topography that unravels its way 57 meters down to the River Derwent provides a natural backdrop in addition to the amber valley view which can be immersed at a higher level. My proposal involves a series of curated, sympathetic yet harnessing architectural interventions that increase connectivity to the forest and valley views. I will introduce more levels (aligned with the four layers that make up a forest). The proposed circulation is explorative of the building and the immediate landscape. This encourages connectivity and increases a natural sensory experience for the sight restricted client and her family.

MA Interior Architecture and Design

The MA Interior Architecture and Design is a multi-dimensional course which incorporates the understanding of interior, spatial and architectural design alongside an awareness of building structure.

The course is an intensive 53 week in length, and it is divided into three successive terms: Certificate, Diploma and Masters. The DIPLOMA SHOW is the conclusion of Term 2, launched in July 2021. At the end of Term 3 October 2021, the same students present their MASTERS SHOW before entering into industry or further studies.

The course has a very strong studio-based culture which is reflective of professional practice, with a combination of design and skills-based teaching and exploration with a strong focus on the spatial investigation, humancentric and holistic use of space.
