Villa V'Linea

Midst the woodlands of Ambergate lies a cottage house in a dilapidated state with only the outer walls intact, damaged floors and roofs, all taken over by nature. The challenge is to reimagine the house as a work and live space for a client who has recently shifted from London to Derbyshire.

The overall intent of my project specifically is to create an impact in the community of Ambergate. Thus, researching the demographics and user profiles of the Ambergate helped in finding out that there is no community space in this area. On the other hand, the clients, who are Astronomers by profession, live a hectic lifestyle with flexible hours of work and are in need of a lifestyle change from the busy streets of London.

The final proposal as a solution to all of the above involves a planned community garden on the site near the River Derwent with the clients living a peaceful and relaxed lifestyle connected to nature. But, planning a public space beside a home needs security and privacy, and thus the installation of a perforated corten steel facade all around the house. From the exterior, the building looks uninviting and resembles a rusted old warehouse. On the inside, the spaces are cosy and the clear planning of work and live space around the pocket gardens create a relaxed environment.

The planning of the house is centered, with all the focus on the two pocket gardens. The physical and visual connectivity from any point in the house is directed towards the garden. Villa V'Linea abbreviates to Villa Visus Linea meaning "Lines of sight in a house"

MA Interior Architecture and Design

The MA Interior Architecture and Design is a multi-dimensional course which incorporates the understanding of interior, spatial and architectural design alongside an awareness of building structure.

The course is an intensive 53 week in length, and it is divided into three successive terms: Certificate, Diploma and Masters. The DIPLOMA SHOW is the conclusion of Term 2, launched in July 2021. At the end of Term 3 October 2021, the same students present their MASTERS SHOW before entering into industry or further studies.

The course has a very strong studio-based culture which is reflective of professional practice, with a combination of design and skills-based teaching and exploration with a strong focus on the spatial investigation, humancentric and holistic use of space.
