Architecture School of Conservation

Located on the former Environmental Agency site in Nottingham, the Architecture School of Conservation is set to revitalise the area with its contemporary design and unique teaching program. With collaborative education as the main objective for the development, this is a design vision for a thriving hub for 120 post-graduate students that includes open plan studios, flexible teaching spaces, a large workshop, library, cafeteria, and landscaped outdoor space.

Aligned with the internal functions, the exterior of the building reads as three separate blocks. For the natural transition between them, the external colour palette and materials are carefully considered.

As a reminiscence of the past that gives the school a sense of place, the main block shelters a part of the original development. The old walls provide the boundaries for the interior spaces. The scheme follows the design principles for well-being that are exhibited by the river views and interiors that are basked in natural light from the large atrium and skylights.

BArch Architecture

The BArch (Hons) in Architecture course is focused on the creative and practical development of architectural design, investigated in a studio environment through a series of carefully considered practical and theoretical projects in a variety of spatial, social, cultural and topographical situations.

The purpose of the course is to align architectural concepts, thinking, techniques and values with current architectural thought and practice. It involves strategic thinking and creative imagination; problem-solving and research tasks; attention to detail and tectonic resolution; traditional and digital forms of representation; and public presentations and reviews. This course addresses the challenges of designing for diverse communities and cultures and develops Part 1 graduates with creative vision, practical skills and an ethical position in respect of the role of the architect in a globalised world.
