Urban Sanctuary

City life is fast and unrelenting, creating a hostile environment where the build-up of stress and anxiety can provoke a breakneck deterioration in mental health. The urban morphology sorely lacks a convivial component and forces its inhabitants to feel invisible in a world that’s ever moving.

This project introduces a grounding factor. An ‘Urban Sanctuary’; offering a communal element that nurtures the development of good mental health while challenging the current library institution, and it’s strict ideology. The programme establishes multi-functional spaces with the aim of creating a convivial atmosphere, reducing stress build up and influencing a better work ethic.

Offering technology spaces, a vast collection of books, communal and solitary study, as well as a café, lecture theatre, meditation rooms, various gardens, and a pavilion; the ‘Urban Sanctuary’ project caters to a diverse number of people each with their own unique needs.
