NTU Architecture Subject Group

Conservation Centre

The St Barnabas Conservation Centre responds to the need of the existing users of the site, whilst creating a presence in the city to celebrate the skills of conservation. Creating a dedicated archive and office for the diocese, meeting rooms to accommodate the local
groups, a second dedicated archive for conservation materials with workshops, with a centralised forum for speakers to discuss conservation techniques. The architectural language of the design looks to make the site more welcoming, establishing its own identity without compromising the hierarchy of the site by respecting the surrounding listed
buildings.

L7 Architect Degree Apprenticeship

The L7 Architect Degree Apprenticeship is an integrated apprenticeship, which incorporates a programme of academic and workplace learning and assessment with an End-Point Assessment (EPA) to test the knowledge, skills and behaviours detailed in the Architect Apprenticeship Standard. The first three years of the Architect Apprenticeship lead to the award of Master of Architecture (MArch) Architecture in Practice, in which you will: develop design and communication skills; extend your knowledge of theoretical, socio-economic, historic and cultural factors affecting architectural design; advance your appreciation of technology and construction methods; and develop knowledge of management, practice, and law. The final year of the Architect Apprenticeship (leading to a PGDip AP award) will require you to address the challenging and rapidly evolving world of architectural design and practice, and to examine self-critically how they can most effectively contribute ‘value’ (in numerous senses of the word) to the built environment.

The Architect Apprenticeship has been designed to meet professional, institutional, and academic requirements, aiming to meet the expectations both of our two PSRB organisations (ARB and RIBA) and of the local and regional employers from whom we seek to attract apprentices. The University is currently seeking ARB prescription for the programme, and once that is achieved, we will for the RIBA’s validation too.
